Ariana Arestegui is a lifelong Garden Grove resident, city commissioner, volunteer, and community advocate running for city council to represent the neighborhoods where she was born and raised. Born in Garden Grove Hospital to a family of immigrants from Mexico City and Michoacan, she is a product of Garden Grove Unified School District where she attended Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary, Doig Intermediate, and Santiago High School.
Ariana’s commitment to service was influenced by her parents, active volunteers at Garden Grove’s Christ Cathedral. She began her service at an early age, organizing food drives for her community. In High School, she volunteered with local organizations as a leader in Key Club. Her favorite service project was volunteering at the Kiwanis funnel cake booth at the Strawberry Festival. She continued her commitment to service in college, where she started a volunteer organization.
After graduating from California State University, Northridge, Ariana furthered her commitment to her community and became civically engaged, attending City Council meetings and speaking in support of policies that would improve the quality of life for her neighbors.
In 2021 Ariana was appointed to Garden Grove’s planning commission, where she made decisions that improved development across the city and worked to make Garden Grove more affordable. She also served on retired Garden Grove Police Chief Tom DaRae’s Chief Advisory Council, communicating public safety concerns on behalf of residents. In 2023, she was appointed to the city’s Parks, Recreation, and Arts Commission, where she has improved parks and worked on behalf of East Garden Grove residents to increase needed park space.
Ariana lives in East Garden Grove with her rescue dogs, Gorda and Guera, and her Belgian Malinois, Kurama. You will often see her at Garden Grove’s Civic Center, or working on her garden. She is also an avid outdoorswoman who enjoys fly fishing and visiting national parks in her free time.
Priorities
As a lifelong resident of Garden Grove, I’ve had a front-row seat to the changes happening across the city. I will use my deep knowledge of our community to guide my decisions on the city council. I will work on:
- Infrastructure
- Public Safety
- Quality of Life
